Telluride Snow Report Plugin

Telluride reached out to us with a very specific scope of work. They had just completed a redesign of their website. During that process they decided to make some changes to their back-end architecture as well. They wanted to move from a proprietary solution to a more flexible WordPress plugin to collect and display the data for their snow report.

We worked with the wonderful staff at Telluride to build out the new plugin and meet the deadline so that the features were available when the new site design was launched.

DATE: Completed and launched Winter 2020.

ROLE: We worked with Telluride to build a custom plugin that powers their snow report.

CLIENT: Telluride, Colorado (elev. 8,750′), is a National Historic Landmark surrounded by the highest concentration of 13,000′ and 14,000′ peaks in the United States. While the ski terrain is world-renowned, the resort is truly defined by a collection of unique, intimate and unmatched elements.

The Snow Report

The first order of business was to create the snow report data structures. The snow report provides a great visual display for visitors of the site. Additionally, the back-end entry for the snow report had to be easy to update and provide feedback that the report was updated as well. Both front and back come together for a flexible display that incorporates the new design aesthetic.

App Feed and Digital Signage

The final integration that was key to plugin was providing a way for the Telluride Ski Resort app to access the data from the snow report so that app users have up to the minute updates on the conditions and status for their favorite trails. They can get a quick glimpse of wait time or if a lift or trail is closed. There are several digital signs at the resort that make use of the same information and are also gathering information from the snow report plugin.

Email Integration and PDF

One important aspect of the new plugin was that it integrated with the existing emails services Telluride uses to update it’s subscribers. The details from the snow report are emailed to users who want to stay informed about the conditions at the resort. Once the details are updated a new email is generated that updates subscribers. Additionally, the data can be downloaded as a printable PDF from the site.

Conclusion...

Working with Telluride was fantastic. Their team was very organized and had a specific set of goals very clearly laid out. We were able to quickly build what they needed and with a few adjustments, the plugin was providing attractive, informative, and up-to-the-minute updates to Telluride’s user base. We look forward to working with them on future enhancements.
