Custom WordPress Development
Custom WordPress Development is Pixel Jar’s project work for WordPress sites: new builds, custom plugins and themes, speed fixes, and connecting the tools you already use. We’ve built on WordPress since 2007, and every project is quoted on its own before any work starts.

What can Pixel Jar build or fix in WordPress?
- A new WordPress site built from scratch, or an old one brought up to date
- A custom plugin for the one thing no plugin quite does, or changes to one that almost does
- A custom theme, or changes to yours that won’t disappear at the next update
- A slow site made fast, especially on a phone
- Your forms, booking, payments, and other tools connected so they work together
- Help showing up on Google and in AI answers, like ChatGPT
- An audit of your site, or straight advice before you commit to a big project
Why it matters
Most WordPress sites start with a theme and a stack of plugins, and that works fine, right up until it doesn’t. Maybe a plugin almost does what you need. Maybe the site got so slow you’d rather not send people there. Maybe the person who built it stopped answering emails. We’ve been building on WordPress since 2007, so we’ve seen most of the ways it goes sideways. We’ll tell you straight what’s worth building, what’s worth fixing, and what you can leave alone.

Questions owners ask
How much does it cost to hire a WordPress developer?
It depends on what you need, so every project is quoted on its own. Tell us what you’re trying to do, and we’ll give you a straight number before any work starts.
Can you fix a WordPress site someone else built?
Yes. We look under the hood first, tell you what we find in plain English, and then quote the work.
Do I own the code you write?
Yes. Once the project is paid, the code we write for you is yours.
Can you build a plugin that does what I need?
Usually, yes. If a plugin almost does the job, we can often add what’s missing, built so the next update doesn’t undo it. If nothing comes close, we can build one from scratch.
Why is my WordPress site so slow?
Most often it’s heavy images, too many plugins, or a theme doing more than it needs to. We find what’s actually slowing it down and fix that, instead of guessing.
Do you work with agencies and other developers?
Yes. Agencies and developers hire us behind the scenes for WordPress work.
Who takes care of the site after the project?
We can. PJ Update keeps a WordPress site updated, backed up, and watched by a real person for $149/mo. Or hand it to your own team. It’s your site.
What if I’m not sure what I need yet?
Start with PJ Insight. It’s a 90-point checkup of your site for $1,200, with a plain-English report of what needs attention and where the priorities are.
